Barter

Barter is a local 2 player turn-based strategy game where you and your opponent are playing as two merchants negotiating for the best deal. You'll take turns placing and moving coins on two sides of a scale with the goal of ending the game with more coins on your side than your opponents. You'll also play action cards every turn that contribute to the manipulation of the coins on the scale. I hope you and a friend enjoy!

When I started this game I wanted to learn how to use Unreal Engine 5 having only ever used Unity before. I also wanted to create a game with replay-ability as my projects before have had a finite amount of levels and content. I decided the best way to do this would be to create a 2 player game so that the replay-ability comes from the strategic interaction between the two players. Given my inexperience with Unreal Engine, I also decided to make it a local 2 player game instead of over a network connection and a turn-based game to try and keep the scope of the project to something I could reasonably accomplish in the monthlong game jam.
